Cholesterol is not always a negative thing. In fact, there are good and bad cholesterol. The level of those cholesterols can be affected by the food you eat. To know what kind of foods will benefit your health, you should learn the differences between these two cholesterols first.
LDL (Bad Cholesterol)
LDL is called the bad cholesterol because it can form plaque that will block your arteries and prevent adequate blood supplies to your body. If this happen, the result is fatal. You can get heart attack, and other dangerous diseases like stroke. LDL’s accumulation on our body can be caused by consuming too much processed foods, high sodium and products that contain trans fat.
HDL (Good Cholesterol)
HDL is the good cholesterol. It carries away the plaguing LDL in our arteries and sends it to the kidneys to be excreted. You can get this good cholesterol from olive oil, whole grains and legumes. Avoiding the food that can produce LDL also helps your body to generate more HDL.
Now that you know the differences between good and bad cholesterol, you can choose what you should and you shouldn’t eat. Make sure you eat food that will maintain the good cholesterol level in your body and reduce the bad ones.
